About me

Welcome to my blog! My name is Nathalie Howl and on this blog I would like to share my passion for photography. It mainly started with food and DIY photography. However, the urge of trying more techniques and observing the world around me grew, and therefore this blog has developed to a photography blog. It is kind of scratch book, the Instagram-blog-version so to say.

NathaWhy “le dot”? I wanted a bit of French influence, not for being fancy but to emphasis my roots. After all I am French and this is not that terrible. And the “dot” to get to the point. Keep it simple and clear.

I have been an apprentice at the Arcanum from December 2014 to Summer 2016. This has been a unique experience for me. I met some wonderful people virtually and in real life to share my passion for the photographic art and more importantly to keep me going on a daily basis. I mainly learned for myself that the beauty of photography is to keep me aware of  my surrounding world, to help me to slow down and focus.

I love tea and the word “quirky”. I can’t properly pronounce the word “squirrel” because I am also German. I like colorful things and simplicity. I also love coffee, but I am a snob. My better half started making cold brew and there is no way back to office brew.

I would be delighted to receive feedback and start creative exchanges. You can contact me here. Interested to see what gear I use? Than have a look here.

  4. Hello newest Spikey! I know, a bit corny, eh, but that’s the term that has come to stick for those folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂

Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it, thrown in for good measure.

My promise to you is not to be overbearing, just a couple of posts a day, maybe 3 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great day…

    • I am happy to be a new Spikey! Thanks for checking out my little blog. I really appreciate it! I am looking forward to reading more on your blog! Have a great day!

  5. Love the photos! I’m British, so with you being german and french that makes us technically sworn enemies :p :p

    • Thanks for the compliment dear ennemy. Surprisingly, I am in love with England with its cottages, pubs, queing, tea and unique sense of humour 🙂 After all this might become a friendship. Thanks for stopping by.

  8. 🙂 It’s nice that you are French, but also German? 😉 Well, my husband has German roots and he is the best human being I have ever met. Grateful for your comment Miss Dot. On peut parler en francais aussi si tu veux. Paula 🙂

    • Thank you for stopping by on my blog as well! On peut en effet aussi ecrire en français. Ça me ferait du bien de pratiquer ma langue maternelle un peu plus souvent. 🙂

  9. Hi Nathalie. Thank you very much for stopping over at my blog. Really appreciate it. I hope you loved my world and would like to visit back.

  10. Hi Nathalie, I just found your blog! You take great pictures! I started with photography as some kind of therapy, but I’m just a beginner. Cheers, Teresa

    • Hi Teresa, thanks for finding my blog! I believe is a great form of therapy! It teaches you to observe your surroundings. We tend to rush through our lives and hardly stop for a moment. Photography is a good way to slow down. Lookimg forward to checking out your photos.

If you accept the award, please “pass it forward” and nominate 3 to 11 other people for this award.

There are a few rules if you accept this award which you can find them here: http://thegirlwhoclicked.com/2014/12/26/the-liebster-award/

  17. oHai!

I’m quite late in this response, but January was pretty much hell for having free time.. So here I am! lol. Anywho, I wanted to thank you for following my blog! It’s always so exciting to get new followers, and I am forever appreciative… Even if I don’t respond for months at a time. ;P

On another note, your photography is really fucking gorgeous! I’m browsing around right now, and I’ll try to leave comments on the things that I really love and that catch my eye. I hope you’ve been enjoying my semi-sporadic posts- I’ll be around on your site! ^_^

    • Hey Bettina, thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I am really speechless. Thank you heaps! This is really motivating for me to keep going (I have been pretty busy with life lately and haven’t been able to create a regular work flow for my photography work… but working on it!).

Be sure that I’ll keep checking out your site! All the best, Nathalie

      • Oh trust me, I understand entirely! Comments and likes from people is all that keeps me going sometime. I love doing this, I love the process, and everything I accomplish at the end of it- But in day to day life it can be uber hard to maintain sometimes. ;P

        You as well!

  18. By chance, I wandering into your blog and found myself scrolling through your beautiful pictures. They are very inspiring–I love writing poems inspired by art. How lovely to meet you. Best wishes, Mary

    • Hi Mary, Thank you so much for your kind words! It is nice to see that people are still stumbling over my blog. I haven’t been active lately on this platform, being so busy with work and creating outside of the www. People like you make me want to keep going. I greatly appreciate it! All the best, Nathalie

    • Thank you so much! I really like your presentation on your about page. Very inspiring. A good reminder that it is okay to be different. Looking forward to more of your posts!
